My time at OnTrack PR.... by Sophie Pendlebury
August 2011 by OnTrack PRDuring my week long placement at OnTrack PR I was given plenty of tasks ranging from writing press releases, checking for press coverage in the newspapers and even helping out when BBC Radio Sheffield were doing a series of pre recorded interviews with workers at Robin Hood Airport. There was always something fun for me to do.
Every morning I would start off by searching the internet and reading the newspapers to see if any stories had recently been published about OnTrack PR’s range of diverse clients. Then I would go on to writing copy or embarking on research. I also had the chance to write a travel feature on Belfast which was a first for me. It gave me the chance to get my teeth stuck into researching a city and it is definitely a place I would like to visit now.
By far the best day of the week was on Thursday when I headed down to Robin Hood Airport for the morning. We were joined there by BBC radio Sheffield’s morning presenter, Toby Foster, and his producer, Paul Walker.
The OnTrack team set up a range of interviews for them to pre record for their live broadcast from the airport later this month. They interviewed a pilot, cabin crew, chief fire officer, air traffic controller and one of the airport’s duty managers - it was great to hear about all the different roles.
We had access to all areas and we even got to watch a passenger plane taking off for Egypt from the control tower. It was so loud! We were shown around the fire station and even got to go in Thompson airlines crew room where all pilots and cabin crew get briefed up on a up and coming departure and health and safety techniques are reviewed. It was a great way to end my time here at OnTrack PR.
