Doncaster Champ!
September 2011 by

I’m not your stereotypical 24 year old female... I love football, Formula1, Moto GP, athletics, rugby, boxing... and a sneaky pint of Guinness every now and again!
I’ve seen many different sports live including visiting The Theatre of Dreams (my second home) to watch the mighty Reds - Manchester United - as often as I can.
The OnTrack PR team works with a variety of different sports and leisure clients across South Yorkshire, so when I was given the opportunity to attend my first ever live boxing weigh in at the Keepmoat Stadium I jumped at the chance and wasn’t far off hugging my MD!
Jamie McDonnell and Stuart Hall, two of the top fighters in the country, were set to lock horns and battle it out for the British, Commonwealth and European Bantamweight titles. The all important weigh in had to take place first live on Sky Sports.
The attendance was phenomenal and both boxers had great support, you could feel the atmosphere building with less than 24 hours left to go until the fight of the year.
It was a great opportunity for me to witness what goes on behind the scenes of an event that I’ve only ever watched on TV. I made a number of new contacts from Sky Sports and Dennis Hobson Promotions and also bagged myself two free tickets to the fight at the Doncaster Dome!
Fight night was amazing, the venue looked terrific and was great to see a few familiar celebrity faces in the flesh, including boxing star Johnny Nelson and some of the Sky presenters.
It was a fantastic spectacle with both boxers matching each other blow for blow, with Doncaster’s Jamie McDonnell just pipping Hall to the win on points.
I love my job! :-)
