Notepad nostalgia

May 2011 by

Hovering my thumb over the rarely touched power button, the thought of being out of the loop for a full nine hour flight descends.

What might I miss? The latest tweet-by-tweet coverage update from a colleague, the national media or local press? Without sounding like a complete technology obsessive - which might I add I am not - the urge to communicate grew too much.

So, dare I say it, the old fashioned pen and paper at the bottom of my bag re-emerged for the first time in a long time.

Scribing a blog never felt so right, as it dawned on me - when do we usually leave time to think freely without being distracted by a phone call or an email - personal or work related?

No TV, radio or internet, just alone with your thoughts. Has the mere inclination that we could be excluded from life just by turning off a mobile phone superseded the reality of actually missing out?

Then touchdown came and the ringing began.

As guilty as the rest, the news feeds were scoured, calls made and texts sent. It was nice to be back, but my blank page and black ink had found a new meaning.

No matter where you are, whether you own a Blackberry or not - life goes on. And my trusty pen will travel the journey with me.
